Which of the following photographic features/equipment have you used on a camera before?

Feature
Yes
No
Comments if yes – where have you completed this skills and to what level
Manual Focus features

X

Shutter Speed
X

I used this at the beginning of the year when I was learning all about the features. This feature is quite useful as it allowed me to capture moving images.
Aperture control

X

ISO Control

X

A tripod
X

I used this at the beginning of the year, as well as when I came back to help out with opening evening. This is very useful as it allows you to capture the image straight, instead of you trying to make it look straight. I also found out how to set it up.

X

Self timer facility

X

Light meter
X

I used this to get the perfect light setting, this is very useful as it automatically sets the lighting for you.
Composition grids

Photoshop Skills
Which of the following features of Photoshop have you used before?

Feature
Yes
No
Comments if yes – where have you completed this skills and to what level
Have you aver used Photoshop ever before?
X

I briefly used Photoshop in my old school to design a poster for my art project, I only really used it a couple of time so I wasn’t that familiar with the software.

Text control
X

I used text control for my final product in which I used quite a bit, I did this because I designed a magazine and a double page spread so this allowed me to make my product look like a professional magazine in terms of the way my text was laid out.
Filters

X

Brushes

X

Layers
X

I used layers when I was working on my magazine front cover; this allowed me to have as many different layers so that I could edit them and add or take away stuff. I thought this was quite effective as it allowed me to hide things that I completed, which made it easier for me know what I had left to do.
Opacity control
X

I used this for my final product. I used this because one of the shapes H had made was cover my photo, so I changed the opacity of it so that I could still see the image underneath. I think this effect worked quite well as it allowed me someone to write as well as allowing me to show the image underneath.
Shape creation
X

I used this to create shapes for my magazine. I wanted to create some shapes which were on the front of a football magazine; this allowed me to make my own up in a football format. I also used this to create my banners, and to create a frame-like image for my double page spread.
Brightness and contrast control

X

Gradients

X

Load selection features

X

Feathering

X

Colour curves adjustment

X

Resolution setting control
X

I used this on my double page spread because when I put my front cover in, the pixels went blurry, so by using the resolution control it allowed me to get rid of the blurriness. This was quite effective as it allowed you to read my magazine article.
Magnetic lasso, polygon lasso tool

X

Cropping tool
X

I used this to crop the images I needed, without having any other imagery that I didn’t need. This was quite effective as it made it look tidier and it saved me quite a bit of time.
Clone tool
X

I used the clone tool in some of my magazine cover, this was to make the background all of the same colour. I quite liked using this tool, and it was quite simple to use. This worked quite effectively as it made it look neat as well as saving me time from copying and pasting.

Final Magazine

I chose to make my magazine look like a football one as when I was doing my research I noticed that males weren’t fully aware of how recycling helped and that no males recycled. By mixing football and recycling together it allowed me to target males of the ages of 16-19. By looking at a football magazines layout I established a bond with mine and a ‘match of the day’ magazine. I think that my layout and front cover do resemble a football magazine, so this enabled me to target my audience. I also made my article have a football theme to it by setting it out in a football format such as the ‘stat attack, formation and tactics zone’ this allowed me to make the magazine look exactly how a football magazine, therefore, completing my goals as I managed to link football and recycling together.

Front Cover

I was trying to make my front cover look like a football magazine; I used the image to represent the 1966 world cup final in which I was doing a parody of. Like I did with my double page spread, I set everything out roughly so that I knew what I wanted to put in and where at.

In-Design

When I was doing my double page spread I was trying to get it to resemble a football magazine, so I bought a ‘match of the day’ magazine and looked at the layout of it which enabled me to make my double page spread resemble one. This image above is what I created within the first week of editing it, I set everything out so that I knew where everything needed to go.

Fonts

GUNPLAY
Universal jack
OLD NEWSPAPER TYPES
I went onto http://www.dafont.com/ to see what fonts they had. After I had selected what fonts I wanted I then downloaded them.
I chose these fonts because I thought they suited my magazine. The ‘GUNPLAY’ font was used for my tag lines; I did this because I thought it stood out and grabbed the reader’s attentions. The ‘UNIVERSAL JACK’ was used for my magazine name which was Universal, I thought this was quite suited to my name as it looked quite like what I was looking for, I wanted it to make my magazine stand out. I used the ‘OLD NEWSPAPER TYPES’ font because I based my magazine on the 1966 world cup final and this font made it seem like from that timeline as it was quite similar to fonts which were used back then.

Production

5th April.

Progress:
I have pretty much finished everything now, I only have the odd bit to change on my cover and in-design layout and then I can fully concentrate on writing my article and putting it into a football format. Also this week I got my print audit and the advantages and disadvantages table to do, I decided to concentrate on my article in lessons and do these sheets at home as I thought I would be able to concentrate more at home than in lesson.

Targets:
I targeted to have my entire unit 3 products complete by next week so that I could fill in my evaluation sheets as I was running out of time. I still had my blogs to do which were increasing pressure on me, as I had quite a few to do.

Contingencies:
If I don’t manage to finish off my article this week then this will push me behind schedule even more which pushed pressure onto me, making me think I was going to fail. I set out to make sure that my product was finished as well as making sure my blogs were coming along nicely so that I didn’t have as much pressure on my shoulders when it came down to doing my evaluations, if I don’t get this accomplished then it is more than likely than I will lose quite a few marks in my unit 2 as I won’t get my blogs finished as well as losing marks on my unit 3 products.
